RAW Coffee Company started in 2007 when New Zealand native Kim Thompson noticed Dubai had no locally roasted specialty coffee. She and co-founder Matt Toogood began by hauling beans back from NZ roasteries in their suitcases — and turned that obsession into the first specialty coffee roasting company in the Middle East.
Today RAW operates from a custom-built 13,500 sqft roastery-café in Al Quoz, where beans are roasted in-house daily. Every bag is 100% direct trade — Kim and Matt travel to farms across Africa, South America, and Asia, buying at the farm gate with no brokers. The signature Working Blend pairs two washed Central American coffees with an African natural, engineered for a clean, balanced flat white.
The facility doubles as a SCA Premier Training Campus, offering internationally recognised certifications for baristas and home enthusiasts. You can literally watch your coffee being roasted while you drink it.
The warehouse café has a contemporary-industrial feel softened by pop art on the walls and a laid-back soundtrack. It is spacious — the 13,500 sqft layout means you rarely feel crowded, even on weekends. Laptop workers are welcome, and the vibe sits comfortably between productive and social.
The kitchen runs a Kiwi-inspired all-day menu. Breakfast covers Fluffy Pancakes, Turkish Eggs, Smoked Salmon and Egg Bagel, Shakshuka, and a proper Big Breakfast. Lunch shifts to Proper Kiwi Pies, RAW Burger, Chicken Schnitzel, Satay Chicken Noodles, and an Asian Prawn and Peach Salad. Sides include sweet potato fries, hummus, and mac & cheese. Beyond coffee, the drinks list has smoothies, frappes, fresh juices, and iced teas.
Coffee bean subscriptions start at AED 120 for 500g if you want to take the roastery home.

RAW is slightly off the typical café trail in Al Quoz's warehouse district, which keeps the crowd genuinely coffee-focused rather than Instagram-driven. The staff are notably knowledgeable — ask about the current single origin rotation and they will walk you through tasting notes and farm stories.
Insider tip: Visit on a weekday morning when the roaster is running — the smell alone is worth the trip. Grab a seat near the roasting area, order a flat white on the Working Blend, and pair it with a Kiwi Pie for the full RAW experience.
